Being an audiophile on the road is no easy task. You can't put speakers in a suitcase, so the Icon Mobile was my best bet for good sound. My Icon Mobile arrived 1 day ahead of estimate, and even with the cheapest Sony clip on earphones, the difference between the built in sound card of my HP netbook and the Icon Mobile is evident. Listening with my new Grado headphones, the Icon Mobile provides more clarity, more punch and better separation than my PC soundcard can deliver. The little Mobile may not be the last word in bottom end "Slam", but it does make a good account of itself at the lowest frequencies nonetheless.
The Icon Mobile is very quiet. When connected to my PC USB port, I have not been able to discern any audible noise/hiss in the output of the Icon.
It could not be easier to implement the Mobile. Plug in the supplied cable into your USB port and everything happens pretty much automatically. In about 10 seconds you have better sound from your PC.
For on-the-go, traveling type situations...the Icon Mobile is well recommended.

I hoped this device would offer improved sound compared to my three previous portable headphone amplifiers. This`amplifier' does not generate any sound increase to my ears.
It's pretty, but acoustically useless and expensive.
To quote another, "Want mine? It's only been used once to test it, has never been out of the house and in "as new" condition."
Buy the Boostaroo Revolution ($40.) and a package of AAAA (no misprint) batteries. It provides +42 dB amplification and clear sound. It's a delight.

the performance of this product is dependent on how loud the input is to it. This will not be a problem with most commercial pop that is designed to sound good on car radios and computer speakers, but it will be a problem with softer recordings that the volume on the iPod cannot make loud enough to drive the little amp. It does have something to contribute if its input level is high enough.

I Bought this amp to be used with my Ipod. I was very shocked at how flimsy it was. There is no way this would survive being accidentally dropped while attached to an Ipod. Also..be aware that there is no on and off button. The icon mobile turns on/off whenever your earphones are plugged in! That means if you don't unplug your earphones each and every time you pause your player..the icon mobile will continue to run! How many times have you paused your Ipod for what you thought was a minute but became hrs? Boom..amp depleted. I returned it on that alone. Way better options at the $100 mark.

I got this to amplify my iPod for listening in noisy environments.
I hear MINIMAL -- as in BARELY NOTICEABLE -- volume increase. Certainly not enough to justify the complication of an extra devise with wires and the associated bulk and charging requirements.
Want mine? It's only been used once to test it, has never been out of the house and in "as new" condition.
