Love My 'Silver Bullets'Mar 26, 2011

Having also owned this product's predecessor, the NE-6, I was able to make a direct comparison between the two. Since most people read these reviews to decide whether or not to buy their first Nuforce headphone or upgrade from a previous Nuforce, I'll answer both questions.
Question 1: "Should I buy these? I've never owned Nuforces."
I own headphones spanning in price from under $50 to around $1000. There's a law of diminishing returns with headphone sound quality, however--while a $60 headphone is likely to sound much better than a $30 one, a $600 headphone is not necessarily as drastic an improvement over a $300 one. For the headphone buyer on a budget who is looking for the best possible sound for under $100, you've found your headphone. These have great, tight bass (almost a little too much at times) and offer very refined mids and highs for their price range. They are also well-built and likely to serve you well for years. I've owned a lot of sub-$100 headphones, and these are about the best.
Question 2: "I have the NE-6/NE-7M, etc. Are these worth the upgrade price?"
The greatest improvement I noticed going from the NE-6 to the 700X was in the mids. I feel that the improved drivers offer better clarity, tightness and realism in vocals and midrange instruments. The bass quantity and quality seemed about the same to my ears (pretty substantial and tight for this price range, but borderline flabby on certain songs), and the highs were perhaps a bit cleaner and less tinny. I consider the price increase over the 700X's predecessors to be justified when the improved sound and build quality are taken into account.
In conclusion: whether you're upgrading or new to the Nuforce family, these are a great buy.

I've held off on writing a review for my nuforce 700x headphones for about three months. Since then, they've been burning in.
While I don't consider myself to be an audiophile, I listen to a variety of music (vintage rock, indie, hip hop, and jazz). I'm also picky enough about acoustics to build my own guitars.
Pro's:
+ These phones don't really need special treatment. They sound great to anything amped or unamped.
+ They're built quite tough, despite their svelte looks.
+ They are very, very cheap for the quality that you get.
+ Did I mention that they sound *amazing*? notes on below.
Cons:
- I don't like to be a walking billboard for nuforce.
- These headphones are extremely sensitive to the jack. If you have any play in your jack (as in my ipod touch), this can result in an imbalanced sound.
- Buying nuforce products is extremely habit forming. If their moderately priced ne700x is this good, than everything else must be amazing!
Overall, a strong buy.
Subjective listening notes:
Since headphone preference is a subjective thing, I'll try to give my two cents. For a new headphone-phile, the ne-6 and ne7m are amazing for the money. They are like grado's, with a fairly flattering, rich analog sound. But they are too flattering for some recordings. For example, in Vienna Tang's live recording in Yoshi's, it renders her voice like Sarah McLoclan. In reality, her voice is airier, thinner, and occasionally slightly in between notes.
The ne-700x are a different beast. There is a very definite balance between musicality and analytical accuracy that is very rare. These provide the level of detail that my Audio Technica M50s have, but have more musicality. Unlike the ne-6 or the Grado 60, these will definitely point out bad recordings, bad mixings, and performance quirks. With my M50s, you can hear a person cough in the second row of a recording. With my ne-700x, you can hear the conversation being held behind the guy coughing.
This is highly recommended if you have good quality lossless recordings. If you don't (or don't care), you'd probably be ecstatic with the cheaper ne-6.

 Awesome sound - bad build qualityMay 06, 2011

I'm on my second pair of these. I am very gentle with my earbuds, but the first pair started having intermittent sound from one side shortly after using them. It seemed like a bad connection in the back of the jack. So I contacted support (You have to use the internet - as they don't have any reasonable phone support.) And they replaced it in a reasonable amount of time (nothing exceptional here) The second pair that I got back were not if final product packaging, which is fine as long as they work. They worked pretty well for a while and then one day the end cap of the back of one of the earpieces fell off when I went to pull it out of my ear. It didn't hurt the insides or the usage or anything, but it just slides on and off very easily. I'm thinking of super-gluing it back on but haven't brought myself to do it yet (I'm not sure what I am going to do). The Build quality SEEMS excellent when I first opened them, but usage has proven otherwise.

I have long considered myself an audiophile, but my budget has never allowed me to attain the level of sound quality I so desperately craved. After tiring of stock earbuds' dull and lifeless sound, I set out on a mission to find the most exceptional headphones available in the sub-100 dollar range. Sure, I was certain that it was a futile attempt, and I have to admit that I ultimately failed miserably, because I did not simply find quality budget earphones. Instead, with the NuForce NE-700Xs, I am confident that I found the best headphones available at virtually any price point.
When they arrived in the mail, I simply couldn't wait for an 8+ burn in period, so I dove right in, fully expecting to be underwhelmed. What I discovered were the most clear, vibrant sounds imaginable--complete with crisp highs, gorgeous mids, and phenomenal bass--straight out of the box. I tried out several of my favorite albums, and I heard idiosyncrasies and subtle undertones that I never knew existed. I even found myself devouring songs that I previously skipped over due to lack of interest. I can't imagine music sounding any better than this--in fact, if it is possible, I don't think my ears could take it.
Overall, construction seems solid. The ear pieces appear to be nearly indestructable, and the casing is smooth and sleek looking. Although the cord is fairly thin, it is encased in a rugged, rubberized material. Additionally, various tip sizes are included in the package--small, medium, large, and even triflange--which is invaluable considering the great individual variance in ear size and structure. Once I determined the correct sizing, the earbuds virtually disappeared in my ears. Fortunately, the cord is there to remind me that they are in, and that I am not, in fact, hosting a concert in my head. Thank you, NuForce, for bringing this music lover a taste of heaven on earth...

First off, I'd like to start off with their appearance. With the default ear pieces, they look like bullets, which is a plus for me. It's so simple yet stylish.
The sound is great, it's both clear and crisp. The bass is amazing given the size of these buds. Comfort should be easy to find as there are 4 different pairs of ear caps to better suit your ears. There's this pair that's cone shaped that looks like... I don't know, but if you use them, I don't suggest you go out since pretty much cancel ALL noise. It'd be pretty dangerous.
But these headphones are great. I would recommend them to the next guy searching for a good pair of headphones. No lie.
